A hall at Rimini Fiera dedicated to the new expo section, in a “ready-to-market” logic.
At the expo the technology for the various stages of the integrated water cycle.
Technology, specialist training, internationalization and business will orient the expo days.
Rimini, 3rd June 2015 - Global Water Expo is one of the new features of ECOMONDO 2015, the great international expo dedicated to the recovery of material and energy and sustainable development. From November 3rd to 6th, Hall D3 at Rimini Fiera will host an area representing technologies for the management of the integrated water cycle with the accent on efficiency.
An important conference section will also be dedicated to the purification of urban and industrial wastewater, as well as rainwater, which will present current and up-coming markets in Italy and abroad, as well as innovative ready-to-market techniques, already applied in European demo plants and ready to streamline systems on a vast scale, meeting the competitive market’s requirements in the near future.
Alongside the expo, the scientific board, coordinated by Prof. Fabio Fava, will organize a focus on the topics of “Water Energy and Carbon Nexus”, i.e. the connection between water and energy, since the management of the former absorbs large quantities of the latter and both these resources necessitate greater efficiency. Presentations will be held not only of the experiences of the integrated water service, but also the international Horizon2020 projects, which address standardization of methods and instruments for energy efficiency .
In fact, as well as the great community boost, an important driver for the adoption of best practices for energy saving was introduced in a national context in Italy by Legislative Decree N° 102 of 4th July 2014 for the implementation of European Directive 2012/27/UE on energy efficiency.
There will also be technological innovations for the treatment and exploitation of purification sludge, with particular attention being paid to the technical, economical and environmental sustainability of the plants and strategies for the re-use of the purified water.
Many of the seminars’ appointments will have the benefit of training credits and will contribute to specialist training, which features the enterprises directly involved in explaining the best use of available technologies.
Alongside the expo area, side events will offer the practicability requested by enterprises and will thus feature subjects that currently offer opportunities for new business. As far as Italy’s national territory is concerned, there will be presentations of the work for the overcoming community violations and emergencies, with detailed coverage of the most important investments, such as Catania, where the completion and upgrading of sewage and purification systems is foreseen. As well as those for overcoming community violations, there will also be presentations of priority and e strategic work such as the new wastewater collection system for safeguarding Lake Garda.
“Global Water Expo”, explains Prof. Francesco Fatone of the University of Verona, member of the water work group of Ecomondo’s Technical/Scientific Board, “will give a great boost and support to internationalization this year: as well as techniques, companies will also be presented possible business prospects in countries that are planning considerable work in this sector, such as, for example, Oman, Israel, Brazil, Iran and the Balkan area. The partnership with the main European and Mediterranean networks, such as Water_2020, will ensure the possibility of direct interaction with the key players and fresh possibilities for launching business in new markets.”
Global Water Expo is realized in collaboration with Federutility-Utilitalia, Associazione Idrotecnica Italiana, IRSA-CNR, the University of Brescia, the University of Verona and Consorzio Inca.
WATER IN NUMBERS
In Italy, approximately 5.2 billion m3 (87m3 of water per capita) are necessary for private use alone. Between 55% and 88% of the population receive water from the waterworks (results varied according to how the surveys were carried out). Approximately 30% of treated water is re-used in agriculture. The water network is made up of over 470,000 km of pipes and losses are estimated at around 32%. On a world scenario, that estimates a water market of 250 billion euros with 33 billion euros invested every year, Italy is not distinguishing itself as far as investments are concerned (an annual average of 30 euros per capita) compared with other European countries that invest between 79 and 130 euros per capita every year). The sewage and purification situation is critical and lagging compared to community requisites: three Italians out of ten are not yet connected to a sewage system or purification plants, almost the majority of those living Sicily, in Calabria, Campania, and 30% in Lombardy and Friuli. This delay in purification capacity will result in an overall sum of EU fines of approximately 480 million euros per year from 2016 until the work is completed. In the 2015-20 period, it is realistic to consider an increase in investments by the relative management bodies from 1.3 to 2.5 billion euros per year. Adding the 400 million euros per year of public support funds (FSC, POR, Regional) and 2.7 billion not spent but available for spending, the total is over 20 billion euros.
There are prospects for works for a value of 5.8 billion euros earmarked for carrying out 63 large projects in southern Italy, but the sum is only partially available and implementation plans are not ready.
In the water management sector, there are 311 companies with 27,822 employees and an overall turnover of 7.2 billion euros.
