Rimini, 8th November 2014 – High-profile signs from Rimini Fiera: more innovation, more internationalization and more work. All under the banner of the green economy.
The four days dedicated to the environment system, with the expos inaugurated by Minister Gian Luca Galletti on Wednesday, bore concrete witness to the new development criterion, which has solid foundations thanks to a mature competitive industrial system. Ready to present itself on an international scale in sync with FIMAI ECOMONDO BRAZIL, which in 2015 will be held in San Paolo after the acquisition announced by Rimini Fiera and the Tecniche Nuove Group.
The positive sign, a record for the 18 years of Rimini Fiera’s “environment expos”, is seen in the figures: 101,144 visitors (8.6% more than 2013).
There was outstanding foreign participation, with industry members from 86 countries, 30 of which were from overseas. There were 350 buyers at the expo, with Turkey as the most represented geographical area, followed by the Balkan countries and North Africa. Then Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, South America and Poland.
Rimini Fiera chairman Lorenzo Cagnoni comments, “The success borne out by the quantity and quality of domestic and foreign visitors is the result of an impressive operating plan staged during the year in the interest of companies’ business. We are very satisfied: our network of expos dedicated to the environment is now among the very top in Europe and the next challenge in Brazil opens up fascinating new horizons.”
The contents of the only possible road to economic revival emerged from both the States General of the Green Economy, promoted by the Sustainable Development Foundation, at which the Minister for the Environment and (on the second day) the Minister of Labour Giuliano Poletti took part, and the Ecomondo scientific program coordinated by Prof. Fabio Fava and Key Energy’s, coordinated by engineer Gianni Silvestrini. A thousand speakers communicated the concrete availability of opportunities, funding, knowledge and technology, and a message from Italy’s president Giorgio Napolitano was also read during the proceedings. During expo days, visitors to the events included the Deputy Minister of Economic Development Claudio De Vincenti and Undersecretaries of the Environment Silvia Velo and Barbara Degani.
On the Rimini expo days, sixteen halls hosted 1,200 companies divided into the various exhibitions: Ecomondo (dedicated to the recovery and reuse of material and energy), Key Energy (renewable energy and energy efficiency), Key Wind (wind energy), H2R (sustainable mobility), Cooperambiente (cooperative system for the environment) and Condominio Eco (solutions and services for buildings). Thanks a valuable agreement with Federutility, further development was announced in the section dedicated to the integrated water cycle and the protection of water resources.
Business unit manager Simone Castelli comments, “Our experience allows not only to measure expos’ success with figures, but also perceiving the atmosphere in the expo halls. From this point of view it was an exhilarating week. Green economy is no longer just a part of the economy, but rather one of the most important drivers of growth and the companies we saw as key players at the expo have what it takes to push towards development.”
Over 550 accredited journalists and wide coverage by all the daily and periodical press at both national and local level, as well as by television and radio networks, plus enormous attention on the Web. Impressive involvement was also achieved by the social networks on the official profiles: twelve top eco-bloggers attended the expos, on Twitter almost 5 million impressions and 900,000 profiles reached. On the expos’ Facebook pages, during the week of the events, there was an increase of 300% in the “likes” compared to the previous week, whereas Rimini Fiera’s corporate page reached 347,000 contacts in the last week.
ECOMONDO: THE INGREDIENTS AND CONTENTS OF A HISTORICAL SUCCESS
Over a thousand relations, eight thousand participants. These are the figures that sum up the busy calendar of events promoted by the Technical Scientific Committee led by Prof. Fabio Fava. Appointments tailor-made to meet companies’ most topical demands, conceived in the sectors connected with the green economy.
Prof. Fava explains, ”In the expo space, we included conferences and workshops dedicated to companies’ problems, technological innovation and international cooperation, forming a unique bond between the academic world, industry and institutions, and between policy, research and innovation. In this edition and in the future, our aim is to be an increasingly concrete opportunity for industry members and enterprises, as well as for public research. This is not a slogan: participants in ECOMONDO find concrete instruments for growing, understand the direction taken by research and innovation, as well as how to obtain financing, meet international demand and understand the opportunities offered by new value chains and industrial symbiosis.”
The contents have three fundamental aspects: attention to the world of SMEs, backbone of the national economy; communicating the value of research and innovation, with the explanation of available financing, including that of the EU, and their economic consequences; lastly, internationality, and this year’s focuses on the Countries of the Mediterranean area, Brazil, Russia and China.
Sustainable City was confirmed as one of Ecomondo’s prestigious contents. Set up in 6,000 square metres, the space designed by Rimini Fiera – with the support of the Steering Committee and the collaboration and planning collaboration of eAmbiente – presented an ideal model for a sustainable city, showing solutions, technologies and designs that enable to improve the quality of citizens' lives and favour the development of areas with a sustainable efficient slant. Leading companies accepted the proposal of Sustainable City, which had the support of Legambiante: these included Hewlett Packard Italiana, Telecom, Enel, I-Casa Green, Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato, Ancitel Energia e Ambiente, Coordinamento Agende 21, the Marches Region, Cloros, Invernizzi Imballaggi, Cisa, Confagricoltura, Blupura and Celli.
On the first two days of Ecomondo, the States General of the Green Economy were held, dedicated to “The development of green enterprises as a way out of the Italian crisis”. On the first day speakers included the Minister for the Environment, Gian Luca Galletti, followed by speeches by representatives of European institutions and organizations. The second included a speech by the Minister of Labour, Giuliano Poletti. Thematic in-depth and consultation sessions were also held.
There was as a total of over 100 speakers and 2,000 participants, including institutional representatives, enterprises and business organizations, the research world and associations. The detailed press releases on the two days’ contents are on the Web site www.statigenerali.org
Edo Bronchi, Chairman of the National Council of the Green Economy, said, "The 2014 States General launched the Government a message: the green economy is the key road out of the crisis. We must be careful not just to ‘put up’ with emergencies, but it is necessary to raise our heads, and watch what the more advanced countries are doing. To open new roads, the old ideas of development must be scrapped.” Important announcements from Rimini Fiera. Rimini Fiera chairman Lorenzo Cagnoni officially announced the acquisition, along with trade publishers Tecniche Nuove, of Brazil’s FIMAI expo, the most important in Latin America. For Rimini Fiera, this is the latest step in the high profile process of internationalization under way, and the globalization of the ECOMONDO brand; for Tecniche Nuove, Italy’s largest trade publisher, it is the strengthening of an already prominent presence. The acquisition involves the two investors to the same extent and regards both the FIMAI expo and the relative publishing asset, specialized in environmental sustainability. Therefore, as of 2015, FIMAI will add ECOMONDO BRAZIL to its name. The expo is traditionally scheduled for mid-November and showcases companies ranging from new technologies to eco-efficiency, from recycling to environmental law.
ECOMONDO also hosted the presentation of the fourth ANCI-CONAI Framework Program Agreement which, for the five years from 1/4/14 to 31/3/19, will regulate the amount of compensation acknowledged to Municipalities involved in the “greater charges” of source-segregated collection of packaging waste.
The new agreement confirms the basic principles: it is a voluntary instrument for Municipalities, who can choose whether to take part and consign their packaging waste to the Consorzi di Filiera (the chain’s consortia) or send it elsewhere. Moreover, CONAI has confirmed guaranteed collection throughout the country, from the Alps to Lampedusa, of the waste that the Municipalities consign in any area, even when recycling and recovery targets have been reached, acknowledging the foreseen compensation completely.
Another agreement signed at ECOMONDO, before the Undersecretary of State for the Environment, Barbara Degani, foresees for the next three year that Nespresso, CIAL - (Aluminium Packaging Consortium), Federambiente and CIC (Italian Consortium of Composters), will work together on the collection, recovery and consignment for recycling of Nespresso coffee pods manufactured exclusively in aluminium.
Italy’s green economy was the key player at the Sustainable Development Award. A bottle manufactured with over 80% of recycled glass and with a low weight (145 gr.) in spite of the customized glass, making it highly efficient in terms of environmental impact; a “social networking” platform to spread sustainability; an innovative system for the collection and recycling of agricultural waste and scrap. These are the products realized by three company that are part of Italy’s green economy that won the Award offered for the sixth consecutive year by the Sustainable Development Foundation and Ecomondo with the participation of the Italian President.
In the context of Sustainable City there was the innovative participation of a space dedicated to environmental projects by university spin-off companies and to start-ups. A workshop organized by Netval emphasized the fact that spin-offs are a means for exploiting the results of research. All the proposals presented attracted visiting industry and trade members, on the lookout for the most innovative arriving on the market.
In 2015 the green economy expos will be at Rimini Fiera from Tuesday 3rd to Friday 6th November.
Next year they will also be joined by the SAL.VE International waste vehicle expo, which changes from triennial to biennial frequency.
