A novelty for 2023 is the special mention assigned by the students from the Exhibit Design, Publishing, and Digital Graphic Design courses at IUSVE
(Salesian University Institute of Venice)
Verona, October 3, 2023 – Original and welcoming exhibition spaces capable of telling the story of the company and its product, innovative setups that enhance marble, natural stone, and all merchandise categories displayed at the 57th edition of Marmomac, the most important international event in the world of stone processing. This year, companies have presented themselves convincingly to the public and participated in The New Best Communicator Award, the recognition for the best representations of exhibit design at the fair. In its 15th edition, the award focuses on two well-defined aspects: design - an aesthetically innovative display focused on design elements, formal coherence, and strong visual impact – and concept - meaning an original and unusual product presentation for a fresh interpretation of what is exhibited.
On Friday, September 29, during a ceremony at The Plus Theatre, the awards were presented by an international jury chaired by Aurelio Chinellato, architect and professor at IUSVE in the Communication department, along with Guilherme Amorozo, Editor In Chief of Casa Vogue Brasil, Craig Copeland, American architect and designer, Simona Finessi, founder of Platform Network, and Andrea Mancuso, founder and designer of Analogia Project, who visited the different pavilions and determined the winners.
In the category of Design Italy, the award was given to Savema with the following motivation: "The exhibit is a simple and perfect celebration of the product: the principle is based on the study of a replicable and modular metal supporting structure, allowing for the display of compositions of marble and other materials without repetition, creating overlaps. The possibility of physically crossing the elements engages the visitor in an experiential moment. The approach is theatrical, playing with the backdrops and chiaroscuro effects generated by using lights. The ensemble establishes coherence between the design and the presented element, enhancing the variable point of view."
The winning company in the Foreign Design category was the Iranian Avandad: "The booth, in terms of dimensional scale and logical spatial layout, declares itself in its elegance and rationality—a direct translation of the essential corporate vision. The product takes centre stage without filters, occupying large-scale walls with a surface that turns into a tactile physical catalogue. The ensemble is coordinated using lights to enhance the material and different finishes in detail."
The Italy award in the Concept category was given to Nikolaus Bagnara because, in his booth, "the composition follows the immediately understandable logic of a domestic space. The surfaces, furnishings, and installations provide a complete reading of the material's versatility in all possibilities of use, from technical to artistic to architectural. The finishes allow for a continuous play of perception enhanced by the lighting and compositional system of the exhibit. The search for a graphic code translated physically into the artistic works is of value."
The Egyptian company Marmonil won the Foreign Concept award: "The sensation of a physical entry into the material is achieved through the visitor's participation, who is immersed in the two enormous monoliths that serve as exhibition space. The two cubic volumes play with the uniform use of the material, from the flooring to the walls to the ceiling. The wall presents itself as a library of materials and allows for immediate communication of the proposed products. The stone tones used playfully for a complex inlay enhance the genius loci, establishing a happy relationship between the exhibition moment, visitor, and material element."
Finally, the jury decided to award a Special Mention to Breton: "It is complex and difficult to communicate machinery and technologies, but Breton effectively entrusts the task to colour and type design that reflects its commitment to research. From the graphic sign that characterizes all the communication of the booth, rational, dynamic, and abstract codes are born to stimulate the imagination."
This year's new feature was the involvement of students from the Exhibit Design, Publishing, and Digital Graphic Design course at IUSVE (Salesian University Institute Venice), who were invited to visit Marmomac and select a booth to which another Special Mention was awarded. The prize went to the Italian company Marmo Elite for "the effective use of the container, which transforms from a technical element into a decontextualized protagonist of the exhibition space. The visual and emotional path is well defined, allowing for coherence between the company's claim and the beauty of the material. The strong visual identity is marked in all digital and paper supports, amplifying communication on social channels."
