Veronafiere becomes part of the Italian-Egyptian Business Council
The former general and Defence Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has won the Egyptian presidential election, with more than 90% of votes. Markets have reacted positively to the election result: the rates on 2020 Eurobonds fell to 4.85%, the lowest level since December 2010. After years of revolution, the return of stability has already begun to have an impact on the economic situation and the country is more ready than ever to set new projects in motion.
More generally, this confirms the positive trend in the entire African continent: the new Africa Attractiveness Survey 2014 published by Ernst & Young suggests that in 2013 the proportion of direct FDI in Africa has reached 5.7% on a global scale. This figure is the highest for the past decade. In particular, the number of new IDEs increased by 4.7% in sub-Saharan Africa. The average sum for projects also increased, from $60.1 millions in 2012 to $70.1 millions in 2013. Targets for new investments see South Africa retain its role a main player but Kenya, Ghana, Mozambique, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia are also moving up.
