The outlook for ground-mounted solar panels

In 2018, the number of new photovoltaic installations has grown in Italy, according to ANIE Rinnovabili data. Residential systems account for 58% of the new installed capacity. To reach the 2030 targets on renewables, a considerable growth is needed both in distributed and ground-mounted systems, which offer interesting prospects thanks to falling prices. This will be discussed at KeySolar at 2 pm on 6 November in the Key Solar room, Pavilion B7.

Costs and technology: the frontiers of innovation

The costs of renewables have fallen sharply over the last ten years, thanks to technological advances that have made them more competitive: solar is now the lowest-cost option for generating energy. But what about the future? Research on storage and renewables  is making these technologies even more competitive, and it is also yielding some interesting results in Italy. The topic will be discussed at 9.30 am on 7 November, Key Solar room, Pavilion B7.

Revamping Italy's photovoltaic plants

There is considerable scope of action on Italy's large plants.
According to a study conducted by Althesys, revamping could recover power of up to 4,000 MW by 2030, while repowering could provide an additional 1,600 MW by the same year. The prospects in this field will be examined at KeySolar, at 2 pm on 7 November, Key Solar room, Pavilion B7.

The digitalisation of solar: advantages and opportunities

The future of energy in Italy will be very different to what we have seen up to now: large plants will gradually be replaced by a proliferation of small plants fed by renewables, linked together by smart grids and increasingly efficient storage systems. This and other scenarios, among others, will be analysed at the KeySolar meeting organised by Italia Solare (10 am on 9 November, Mimosa room, Pavilion B6).

Smart: the evolution of the intelligent network

With the dissemination of distributed generation, made possible by the large-scale construction of low-power photovoltaic systems, the efficient management of the smart electricity grid will play a key role. This will be discussed at KeyStorage, at 9 am on 7 November in the Girasole room, Pavilion B7. The convention is organised by ANIE, which will also present the results of the White Paper on Intelligent Grids, produced with RSE.

Prosumers: new aggregation models

Distributed generation is reaching a turning point. New aggregation models between prosumers, i.e. producers and consumers of renewable energy, are emerging in Italy. They are able to create a virtual power plant with hundreds of connected storage systems, which store the energy generated by renewable plants. Updates on the situation will be given at KeyStorage: 9.30 am on 8 November, Girasole room, Pavilion B7) by ANIE.
