18.05.2016

From 23rd to 25th May at Muscat in the context of OWES to intercept the investments of the Gulf Nation that is the leader of the area’s green vision

Rimini, 16th May 2016 – The Ecomondo world roadshow is proceeding full speed ahead. From 23rd to 25th May, the 32 stops scheduled in every continent on the run-up to the huge Rimini Fiera expo event, being held from 8th to 11th November, will feature one of the most important appointments: the one being held in Oman, where Rimini Fiera will participate as strategic partner of the OWES (Oman Waste & Environmental Services) event in the context of the Oman Utility Week.

As far as waste is concerned, Oman produces a very large amount – approximately 4,700 tons of urban waste per day - and has to deal with a situation featuring 350 landfills, many of which are abusive and spread over the country. Basically speaking, there are no collection and disposal plants, apart from the ground-breaking experience of Al Amerat. To solve the emergency, extraordinary investments of approximately 160 million dollars have been allocated, destined for the landfills’ conversion. Oman, the first Arabian country to have a ministry for the environment, aims at becoming the leader of a new “green vision” for the entire Gulf, with an exceptionally high impact action plan.

At OWES, Ecomondo will coordinate the Italian Pavilion, an expo space dedicated to Italian enterprises; in the course of the qualified conferences programmed, speakers will include Francesco Fatone, of the Ecomondo Technical Scientific Committee, with a speech on the topic of re-use of wastewater, and Giovanni De Lisi of Green Rail, who will present an Italian realization regarding railway sleepers in recycled rubber and plastic.

The aim of the event, which will be held in the capital Muscat, is to develop a high-profile presence of Italian companies involved in technology for the environment.
