THE VARIETY OF ITALIAN LITHIC MATERIALS IS FEATURED IN PROJECTS BY IMPORTANT DESIGNERS 

This exhibition analyses topics associated with design using natural stone by highlighting the special features of materials from various production and processing centres in Italy in order to promote technical content based on tradition and the cultural heritage. 

Designers in the forefront of current trends in design and architecture team up with companies based in various areas of Italy with characteristic identities in terms of materials, processing and technological experimentation in order to develop quality design products expressing the skills of these areas. 

Compared to the design experiences promoted by Marmomac in previous editions focusing on the creativity of designers through free experimentation, the "Territorio & Design" exhibition - curated by Raffaello Galiotto and Vincenzo Pavan - is a specific project that aims to create industrial design products identified by stone materials. 

The advent of new digital cutting, machining and modelling technologies - used by companies involved as partners in the event - means that stone can close the gap with the "dominant" materials on the design market since mass production processes typical of industrial items are now possible. This also makes it possible to promote the plastic, tactile and chromatic qualities of materials and develop products ensuring functionality, practicality and high formal content. 

Achieving ambitious goals such as those mentioned above is possible through close collaboration and interchange between designers and companies, as in the case of the consolidated tradition behind the experimental and research events promoted by Marmomac. 

Designers and companies are involved in several thematic areas where the use of stone materials is harmonised and integrated with the functional, sustainability and market aspects of an industrial product. 

This object-product show is set up in a dedicated space as part of the Italian Stone Theatre in Hall 1. It will be backed up by a bilingual catalogue, video interviews with designers and companies and a meeting-convention in the Forum Area with the designers, technicians and companies. 

The Territorio & Design exhibition is part of The Italian Stone Theatre project implemented designed by Marmomac with support of the Ministry for Economic Development (MISE), ICE-Italian Foreign Trade Agency and Confindustria Marmomacchine within the scope of the Special Made in Italy Promotion Plan valorising excellence in the Italian natural stone and related technology field.
