An operation for Italian companies in a country where over 100 renewable energy plants will shortly begin operating
Astana, September 4th 2017 – “We have at our disposal the use of raw materials and the power of increasingly advanced technology to expand the effect to everybody’s benefit; but we also have the responsibility of sharing knowledge, in order that excessive exploitation is reduced and the paradigm of Circular Economy introduced, which is decisive for ensuring sustainability and a future for the Planet and therefore for coming generations.” These are the words of Matteo Marzotto, Executive Vice President of IEG, ITALIAN EXHIBITION GROUP (the expo player founded with the merger between Rimini Fiera and Fiera di Vicenza), at Astana for EXPO 2017, the Exposition dedicated to the Energy of the future which the capital of Kazakhstan is hosting from 10th June to 10th September, with the participation of 115 countries and twenty world organizations (including the UN, UNESCO and OSCE).
Italy’s environment system has achieved truly important results in safeguarding raw materials. One example is biomethane, a key component of circular economy, where the aim is to produce 8.5 billion cubic metres per year by 2030, i.e. 12% of natural gas requirements. These targets are possible by combining suitable waste management with the sector’s know-how. Italy is fourth at world level (after Germany, China and the United States) in the production of biogas from agriculture, with over 1,000 megawatts (2.4 billion mc of natural gas) electricity power installed.
Marzotto spoke at the opening of the Sustainability Forum, promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region in the context of the Italian National Day and with the participation of Italian Ambassador Stefano Ravagnan, during the workshop “Transition Towards a low carbon economy: scenarios and technologies”. Also attending Professor Fabio Fava, member of the Directorate-General Energy at the European Commission and Chairman of the Ecomondo Scientific Committee, whose eagerly awaited speech focused on the issue of a circular economy with a low carbon footprint, providing an international overview on policies and scenarios.
Ecomondo, being held at Rimini expo centre from 7th to 10th November, shared its activity as an international expo with twenty years’ experience, providing a fundamental business tool for green economy companies able to generate an innovative competitive Italian industrial system, now oriented towards a “circular economy”. Appointments such as Astana’s are part of the strategy of Ecomondo, always proactive for the participation of industry/trade members and foreign investors in Rimini interested in increasing their business with Italian enterprises.
At the workshop, moderated by Morena Diazzi (Emilia-Romagna Region’s General Manager for Manufacturing, Commerce and Tourism Activities) as well as Matteo Marzotto and Fabio Fava, participants included Palma Costi (Emilia-Romagna Regional Councillor for Manufacturing Activities, Energy Plan and Green Economy), Daniele Tabarelli (Nomisma Energia), Giovanni Gaviano (Magneti Marelli) Antonino Genovese (Enea), Paolo Ghirelli (Italy – Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce) and Alberto Sogni (Clust- ER Energy and Sustainable Development).
THE KAZAKHSTAN SCENARIO:
As far as it is concerned, Kazakhstan has enormous reserves of oil, gas and coal. It stands out for being fully aware that a future sure future with development requires a solid commitment to the environment and renewable energy sources.
Since the Rio+20 summit in 2012, the country has paid more attention to transforming its economy to a “green economy”, aiming at meeting 50% of its requirements with renewable and alternative energy by 2050 and reducing emissions by 15% compared to 1992. By 2020, Kazakhstan forecasts having over 100 renewable energy plants operating (34 wind plants, 41 hydroelectric power stations, 28 solar power stations, bio stations…).
