The form of nature
curated by ADI Veneto & Trentino Alto Adige Delegation
Concept and Coordination: Carlo Trevisani, Luca Facchini and Paolo Criveller
RECEPTION DESK
Metamorphosis
Design: Silvia Sandini
Production: Helios Automazioni
Seeing the columnar basalt in Garni Canyon is a unique emotion. It transforms from magmatic to solid to become architecture. This reception counter interprets columnar basalt through several types of Apricena Stone, with several surface finish.
TABLES
Quattro
Design: Michela Baldessari
Production: Mondo Marmo Design
Fossilisation, interpreted as the histories of vanished worlds, yields perfect geometries with proportions, purity and beauty that only nature can give us.
The abstraction of the most common fossil and with the idea of playing shade on shade through the use of different natural stones assembled together, while also recuperating smaller pieces, inspired the idea underlying the Quattro table. four segments inter-twined in a spiral with a sub-geometry swirling towards the centre combine to create the table top. The 4-sided shape with slight radiuses connected to each other is supported by a structure made up of 4 "L-shaped" panels - in the 4 different colours recurring in the table top itself - also arranged in a spiral pattern.
Earth
Design: Michela Baldessari
Production: Helios Automazioni
The work of nature even in extraordinary events....
Earthquakes are extraordinary yet natural events that modify the geometries and outlines of our territories. The astonishing graphics tracked by recording devices were the inspiration for the design of this table. A distinctive inlay outlines and characterises the table top, turning it into the story of what happens in the ground that here is interpreted by the base. The seam that opens is moved by wave-forms highlighted by a shiny finish.
Great Ocean
Design: Simone Bellan
Production: T&D Robotics
On the Great Ocean Road in Australia, the strength and impetus of the sea created the Twelve Apostles, stacks in limestone and sandstone rising imperiously along the coast near Port Campbell.
The Great Ocean table recalls the visual sensation of these natural monuments, designed over thousands of years by wind, sand and water. Today overlapping layers of Classic Roman Travertine and Galatone Stone are shaped by an anthropomorphic robot, able to create a seemingly simple but refined silhouette.
Archètipo
Design: Simone Bellan
Production: Intermac
A primordial image embodied in the collective unconscious: essential, coarse, rough, imperfect and archaic. Archètipo is a simple table, in its form and realization. Made of Onsernone Gneis, it has three finishes: natural rough, sandblasted and brushed, glossy.
Nautilus
Design: Marco Bonomo
Production: Cosi
"The suggestion of a fossil set in mother rock transposing its perfect natural geometry into an inlay that retains the metamorphoses of a precious marble. A unique table top necessarily mounted on a frame inspired by goldsmith's art."
A circular table top in Zimbabwe black granite, with carved out pockets in a logarithmic spiral crown sector. Flush inlays in bardiglio nuvolato marble. Countersunk edge inwards to streamline the perceived thickness. Polished finishing of the assembly. The base, shaped by arms following the edges of a pentagonal pyramid trunk joined at the base, is made from sections of slabs bonded firmly together into "T" profiles, then combined to an angled slot and so forming the chalice. Same material as the table top. Polished finish.
Dark Skáptō and Brown Skáptō̄
Design: Paolo Criveller
Production: Cosi, Intermac, Mario Berta Battiloro
The project is inspired by the fossilisation of trees - a very rare process compared to that of other micro-organisms. An anaerobic environment, rapid deposition of sands and clays and the passing of millennia form trunks that last forever. Here, we suggest an interpretation of those ancient woods in the knowledge that we must stop deforestation if we are to continue breathing. The concentric rings or splits in the wood are highlighted by a foil of gold leaf protected by a transparent resin.
Desertification
Design: Valerio Facchin
Production: Athena Marmi
The concept of erosion is interpreted by evoking current climate change processes through the processing of materials. Drought changes territories and their consequent desertification is fixed in marble to remind us of the consequences of short-sighted energy decisions.
Lithofagavinxit
Design: Luca Facchini
Production: GDA Marmi e Graniti
The surface with through holes reminds of the small erosions that mollusks dig in the stone to build their safe shelters. With time, the stone is scattered of these small erosions, that sometime let water and light filter, creating an effect that reminds of filigree. The light, if placed over or under the perforated surface, can evidence this delicate weave, projecting it.
Ombraluce
Design: Luca Facchini
Production: GDA Marmi e Graniti
The irregular shapes, realized with the same marble in three chromatic variations, remind of the stones smoothed by water, shaped by the erosion in their descent along the creeks to the valley. The light that illuminates them from below and that is distributed on the surface reminds of the indefinite play of reflexes that is created when the stones are immersed under water.
White Rock
Design: Silvia Sandini
Production: Helios Automazioni
Glacial moraines, surfaces moulded by time and the slow flow of ice. White Rock is a thick table with a waterjet-processed edge; the processing moves around the perimeter of the table top, passing from the roughest effect to the honed surface of the table top itself. The texture of the marble ensures that this object has a very natural character.
Chimera
Design: Carlo Trevisani
Production: Map Slate
The geometric abstraction of nature characterised by a blend of the various spirals and grooves found in fossils as in other plant and animal forms, takes the shape of a carved and worked decoration that seems almost to have been eroded by nature itself.
The initially milled surface is then powerfully sandblasted together with the elements in the base, treated on the surface to harmonise these elements, eliminate machining operations and recall the work of natural erosion in aesthetic terms.
AVMMC-3
Design: Alberto Vendrame
Production: T&D Robotics
Nature transforms itself in an uninterrupted continuum of physical (insolation, frost, capillarity ...) and mechanical (earthquakes, landslides …) actions. The erosive force of wind and water shapes rocks, creates gorges, creeks, rifts.
5-axis CNC machines shape two travertine slabs: matched together they remind the inlets of the canyons. Structurally, they form the base on which the top rests by interlocking; its central fracture recalls earthquake telluric movements. The surface finishing makes the sedimentary layers of the material emerge.
Aks
Design: Ascanio Zocchi
Production: Sassomeccanica
The randomness of the "hallmark" - a disconcerting circle that widens, tightens and moves over the table top to generate other, more or less deep signs. This depicts the fragility of rock, its erosion, caused by natural phenomena such as Karren (wheel ruts) or walking in the mountains; we believe that rock and marble are indestructible yet either a tiny drop of water or the footsteps of a walker can cause erosion of the material that will never be the same again. Each piece is unique, repeatable in terms of form but not of matter.
Kappa
Design: Ascanio Zocchi
Production: Michelangelo
The project is inspired by karst-like erosion or karren (wheel ruts), a characteristic phenomenon also found in the Dolomites. The slow erosion caused by the flow of rainwater over the centuries creates characteristic ruts having a variety of shapes and sizes. The random formation of these ruts/furrows or karren fields inspired the creation of this table using the Waterjet technique, with deep processing that gradually disappears towards the edge.
A final thought about how precious a block of marble truly is: we often think little about it but when you design and make something in marble, you can be sure that each piece is unique, repeatable in terms of form but not of matter.
