Rimini, 3rd November 2015 – A ribbon-cutting ceremony worthy of great events today, at Rimini Fiera, for ECOMONDO, KEY ENERGY and the other expos of the green economy. The Minister for the Environment Gian Luca Galletti inaugurated the great international expo event along with the president of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Stefano Bonaccini, the president of the Province of Rimini and the city’s mayor, Andrea Gnassi, and Rimini Fiera chairman Lorenzo Cagnoni.
Cagnoni, before a large audience of trade members and representatives of the institutions, said: “We have worked to ensure exhibitors and visitors a real world-level showcase, promoting our proposal in 53 Nations. This work has given great results. We shall host 500 foreign buyers and are awaiting visitors from 90 countries. We have excellent participation by foreign journalists. I also wish to remind you that Ecomondo is debuting in Brazil at the end of the month. These days at Rimini Fiera therefore have a high international profile. You will see this in the halls and at the seminars, which are another extremely valuable aspect of our proposal. Ecomondo, Key Energy and the connected expos are expanding their offer to the whole industry and now, more than ever, searching for solutions to streamline its progress towards increasing sustainability and environmental protection.”
This was borne out by mayor Gnassi: “Ecomondo was launched in 1997 with a successful intuition and a pioneering spirit regarding changes that were hoped for, but still far-off. Now that the world has changed, the expo continues to highlight this evolution and accompany the progress of those who have achieved great sensibility regarding the protection of the environment. Italy can thus play a key role in development policies in the Mediterranean, if it becomes fully aware of a change that can no longer be postponed: putting a stop to the exploitation of the land and paying more attention to reserves of raw materials and sites of historical and tourist value. The city of Rimini, with its decision to stop overbuilding and its commitment to rebuilding its water/sewage system to avoid ecological disasters, is part of this virtuous policy.”
The president of the Region, Bonaccini, continued: “It’s time for politics to pass from talk to hard facts. Ecomondo is an expo with a European profile to which the Region brings concrete action: here we are signing a Program Agreement to finance beach replenishment of the region’s entire coast with 20 million euros; we are working on a Law on zero-balance land consumption; we have approved a regional law on waste to raise source-segregated collection to 73%, and reach a 20% reduction in per capita waste within 2020; we are leaving shortly for the USA, for talks with the Governor of California on effective action for reducing emissions; lastly, thanks to European funds, we shall have access to 104 million euros in favour of sustainable mobility.”
Minister Galletti concluded: “At Ecomondo it can be seen that what we imagined as a better future is in fact the present. At Rimini Fiera, economy and environment go hand in hand to make the country grow. Whoever separates doing business from environmental sustainability is condemned to be emarginated. The Government is proceeding on important fronts: the certification of our undertakings taken with the Kyoto protocol; the approval of the Environment Bill by the Senate and, I hope within 2015, also by the Chamber of Deputies; the adoption of the European Directive on circular economy, scheduled for the 2nd of December and preparations for the World Climate Conference in Paris. I’d like Italy, starting from Ecomondo, to move in a united convinced manner towards this event, which puts the Planet’s future on the line.”
After the expos’ opening, the fourth edition began of the States General of the Green Economy, which hosted the presentation of the 1st Report on the green economy in Italy.
It must be remembered that until Friday 6th November, in the 113,000 sq. m. of the 16 Rimini Fiera halls, 1,200 companies will exhibit simultaneously at ECOMONDO green technology Expo, KEY ENERGY on Energy and Sustainable Mobility in Italy; KEY WIND for companies in the wind power sector; KEY ENERGY WHITE EVOLUTION on energy efficiency; SA.LVE the biennial municipal waste vehicle expo; H2R Mobility for Sustainability, with large automobile brands and their methane, LPG and hybrid models; COOPERAMBIENTE, the exhibition of cooperatives involved in the environment and CONDOMINIO ECO, with technological solutions for reducing residential buildings’ energy consumption.
